
COTABATO CITY – As part of the weeklong celebration of the 67th Araw ng Cotabato, the City Government of Cotabato formally reopened the historic Kutawato Cave on June 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to preserve its cultural heritage and promote tourism. The ceremony was attended by local government officials, representatives from the Bangsamoro Government, tourism stakeholders, community leaders, and residents who gathered to witness the reopening of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
The reopening of Kutawato Cave highlights the local government’s commitment to safeguarding the city’s rich history while creating new opportunities for tourism and economic growth. Known as the only cave located within the heart of a Philippine city, Kutawato Cave stands as a symbol of Cotabato City’s unique cultural identity and historical significance. Through rehabilitation and conservation efforts, visitors can once again experience the natural beauty and historical value of the site in a safe and sustainable manner.
In his message, Mayor Mohammad Ali “Bruce” Matabalao emphasized the importance of preserving the city’s heritage for future generations. “The reopening of Kutawato Cave is not only a celebration of our history but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to protect and promote the cultural treasures that define our identity as Cotabateños. As we celebrate the 67th Araw ng Cotabato, may this landmark continue to inspire pride, unity, and progress among our people,” the Mayor said. The event concluded with a ceremonial tour of the cave, showcasing its historical significance and renewed potential as a premier tourist destination in the Bangsamoro region.
