COTABATO CITY – The City Government of Cotabato joined the nation in commemorating the 128th Philippine Independence Day through a solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony held at Rizal Park on June 12, 2026. The event was attended by local government officials, members of the Bangsamoro Government, representatives from various agencies, uniformed personnel, students, and community leaders. Also present during the celebration was Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua, together with officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), underscoring the significance of unity and patriotism in nation-building.

The observance paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the Filipino heroes who fought for the country’s freedom and sovereignty. Through cultural presentations and patriotic activities, participants reflected on the enduring values of nationalism, unity, and resilience that continue to guide the nation toward progress and development.

In his Independence Day message, Mayor Mohammad Ali “Bruce” Matabalao emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of the nation’s heroes through responsible citizenship and collective action. “As we celebrate the freedom won by our forefathers, let us remain united in our commitment to peace, progress, and service to our fellow Filipinos. May the spirit of patriotism inspire us to work together in building a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous future for Cotabato City and our nation,” the Mayor said.
